![]() ![]() ![]() We’re pretty sure it’s a coincidence that these two aliens look alike, seeing as the SQ5 one was designed/drawn at Dynamix in Oregon, and SQ6 was designed/drawn at Sierra. What a curious conundrum this particular puzzle presents!įor some reason it reminds me of the original Star Trek pilot, “The Cage” from 1964… where comely blonde castaway Vina appeared to Captain Christopher Pike as a sultry green-skinned Orion slave girl in a telepathical fantasy:ĭivorce mee, untie, or breake that knot againe,Įxcept you enthrall mee, never shall be free, Strangely, when Roger looks at her, the Narrator remarks that he seems to recall having seen her somewhere before.Įven more bizarre: in the SQ5 hintbook, a close-up pencil sketch of this particular cadet takes up a full page as the header to one of the text sections.Īnd… said sketch is drawn at the very same angle as the introductory close-up of Beatrice Wankmeister, Roger’s love interest first glimpsed back in SQ4, seen in the game proper. That alien female cadet from Space Quest V, like the male Vulgar in SQ6, has greenish- (teal?)-colored skin and a mohawk of brown hair. With his green skin and fuzzy mohawk-esque haircut, the Vulgar martial arts master from Space Quest 6 looks an awful lot like a certain mystery cadet in Roger Wilco’s StarCon Academy class from the previous game. This is apparently an intermediate version of Rog’s sprite in the very earliest known screenshot, Roger’s jumpsuit is white and he appears to have blonde hair. However, apparently Roger’s gun power was limited, making this instead of shield strength the important factor in the space battle at the end of SQ3.Īnd of course Image 3 shows Roger with the purple boots that he wore in SQ2. At this stage in development, the Mallard was capable of running shields at its front and back ends simultaneously. Image 2 shows the accompanying weapons control screen. Image 1 shows an early version of the Aluminum Mallard’s cockpit menu, with a livelier color scheme than featured on the menu in the final version of SQ3. Facsimile screenshots of an early version of Space Quest ]I[ - The Pirates of Pestulon (Sierra, 1989), featuring alternate graphics seen in 1988-89 VHS promotional videos.
